The characters are the weak point in this book. I can't understand people who have zero survival instincts, especially around people who have proven themselves a threat to life and limb. Not sure about the background of the authors, but either they are utterly naive and have no understanding of base human nature once all restraints are off, or they are writing this satirically, laughing at the terminally foolish. From allowing a "fresh start" to a woman who tried to kill one of the primary characters, and then held two characters as walking hostages, to letting a man walk away who swears he's going to return and destroy them, to wandering past a biker gang instead of pushing bicycles into the woods and circumventing them, this book is awash in literal human fiction. I found myself laughing most of the way through, so there is entertainment value. For better SHTF fiction, try Bruno Miller, Franklin Horton, T.L. Payne or Joe Nobody. The will to survive is strong. Even if you have to kill someone. To some, that's self defence. To others murder. The second group have to learn to leave with it. Move on. Easier said than done. This book, the second in this series portrays this. A family bond is all they have. Sometimes new members become part of their family. This is an excellent story for survival when life throws every curveball in it's arsenal. An excellent read!!! Enjoyed immensely!!!
